Named in honor of the late Marty Ellis — a beloved brother, uncle, and friend — our story is one of heritage, heart, and a deep love for Eastern North Carolina barbecue. Located in Wilson, North Carolina, a town known for its legendary BBQ and charming antique shops, Marty’s BBQ is proudly owned and operated by the Ellis family, renowned in the region for their mastery of traditional Eastern NC barbecue.
The journey began in February 2018, when Lawrence Ellis, son of the legendary pitmaster Bill Ellis, transformed a boarded-up convenience store into what is now a bustling local favorite. With decades of family knowledge behind him, Lawrence brought his vision to life — and his dedication shows in every bite.
